My name is Heidi Jo Dorr, and most people call me "Jo." My home base for the past twenty years is in the dramatic central Vermont mountains.

I enjoyed the vibrant San Francisco Bay Area for twenty years before coming east to New England with my family. And I grew up on Lake Ontario in Northern New York.

 

I'm an experienced, accomplished literary editor with more than sixteen years of professional freelance experience. I've provided editing services to more than ninety authors and clients to date. My editing is focused primarily on developmental editing, proofreading, and sensitivity (diversity) reading. 

 

I specialize in developmental editing for poetry, fantasy fiction, cookbooks, children's books, historical fiction, folklore, memoir, and magical realism (+ some others). 

 

I'm an accomplished proofreader of all genres, both fiction and nonfiction. My sensitivity reading expertise has assisted large publishers, nonprofits, and independent authors who want culturally accurate literature that engages a diverse range of readers.

 

I'm a deep listener and approach all editing with integrity, consideration, and a high level of expertise. I enjoy working with new and seasoned authors, as well as small and large publishers.
